HISTORY & DESCRIPTION:

The yachts designed by Dr. T Harrison Butler are amongst the most coveted small cruising yachts in the UK and beyond. THB's style and beauty of line combines with a well balanced and sea kindly vessel.

The Pepin Design dates from 1933 and was published in the Little Ship Club Journal in January 1934. The design, although pre-metacentric is well balanced on all points of sailing even in the squall conditions.

Built by the Walton Yacht & Launch Works, Shepperton on the River Thames in 1936 for R J Halden of London. The traditional construction is carvel planked larch, epoxy finished, copper fastened to steam bent oak timbers with an oak centreline.

Decks are 1.25 inch swept teak laid over a sub deck. Varnished teak cabin and cockpit coamings.

Traditional accommodation affording two 8ft upholstered settee berths to port and starboard. Starboard quarter galley with Taylors gimballed paraffin cooker and stainless steel sink unit.

Yanmar 9hp 1GM10 diesel engine, fitted new in 2009. Recorded hours 40. Servo-cone clutch KM2P-1 drive, engine serviced February 2014. Darglow Featherstream propeller.

Columbian pine, keel stepped mast. Bermudian cutter rig sets about 300 sq. ft. plain sail. Stainless steel standing rigging renewed in 2010. Running rigging new in 2007. Dacron sails, main, staysail and headsail. Roller reefing headsail.

Mayfly after nearly forty years in the ownership of Lt Cmdr Harlock R N based in Exmouth was in need of a complete re-fit. A thorough and carefully planned restoration programme commenced in 2010 and was completed in 2016.

The Harrison Butler Association, with currently about two hundred members world-wide is dedicated to yachts designed by Dr. Thomas Harrison Butler.  Full membership is available to owners or past owners of authentic boats and associate membership open to anyone with an interest in THB's designs.  Members meet throughout the year at the various classic boat events.
