Broker's Details:

'Rawanah' is an individual Gaff Rigged Ketch designed by Maurice Griffiths for a good friend in 1935.  She was built by undoubtedly one of the most well know East Coast Yards, Harry King at Pinmill.

She features in Maurice Griffiths book "Little Ships & Shoal Waters" recounting a voyage by MG and his friend, Hubert Brown from Oban to East Tarbert.

45' length over spars,  35' length on deck,  10' beam,  4'10" draught,  14 tons Thames Measurement,  10 Tons displacement,  3.5 Tons iron ballast keel with internal lead trimming ballast.

Carvel pitch-pine planking (mostly full length planks) fastened to sawn 2"x1.5" oak frames at 8" centres.  Varnished solid teak cockpit and cabin coamings and coachroof.  Varnished teak hatches and companionway.  Substantial bulwarks and generous side decks.

Timber masts and spars, recent galvanised standing rigging.  New main sail 2005, mizzen 2008, large staysail 2001, working jib 2006, topsail 2003 also small staysail, running chute, mizzen staysail, large lightweight jib / yankee, flying jib and storm trysail.

38hp Beta Diesel Engine installed in 2004, less than 1,000 hours.  New fuel tanks, total 130 litres, new 110 litre water tank.  Starter battery and systems battery.

Charming unspoilt main saloon cabin with port and starboard settee berths, central drop-leaf table, built in stowage, drawers and shelving.  Charcoal stove.  Galley with two burner gas cooker with oven and grill.  Pantry and crockery lockers.  Port side quarter berth.  Fo'c'sle with fixed berth and pipecot.  Heads compartment with Baby Blake marine wc.  Aft cockpit with wheel steering on direct screw drive and traveller.  Anchor windlass.

BROKERS NOTE:

During the present ten year ownership 'Rawanah' has sailed thousands of miles to the Outer & Inner Hebrides, Orkney and Faroe Isles, Scilly Isles, Ireland three times including a circumnavigation in July 2008.  She won the Cock O The Bristol Channel Race with courses of 80 & 50 miles competing against the Bristol Channel Cutter Fleet.  In all those sea miles 'Rawanah' proved herself to be a sea kindly robust vessel , gentle on the helm, making good passage times and capable in rough weather. A traditional no nonsense family boat with a good pedigree and interesting history.
