HISTORY & DESCRIPTION:

The Mustang class was first established in 1964 when Elkins of Christchurch designed and built a shoal draught cruising yacht called 'Mustang of Christchurch' ideally suited to the relatively shallow Dorset harbours of Poole and Christchurch.

Elkins are probably most well known as builders of the Laurent Giles designed Vertue Class which includes the famous Vertue, number thirty-five commissioned for Humphrey Barton.

The final Mustang built was 'Alvina' in 1967 for Captain R V & Mrs J M Howells of Mudeford.  In the late 1970's Stan Prichard became her second owner and over the following twenty-five years ownership cruised thousands of miles from his Elkins based mooring, mainly single-handed.  In 2003 she was acquired by her third and current owner and moved to a North Devon mooring from where 'Alvina' is mostly cruised in local waters.
