HISTORY & DESCRIPTION:

The Kestrel One Design Class dates from 1955 to a design by J Francis Jones, a former pupil of the famous naval architect Kim Holman. J Francis Jones, from Woodbridge, Suffolk was inspired by shoal-draught sailing on the East Coast and incorporated strong lap-strake construction with practical qualities and a lifting keel.

The first example was built by Ernie Nunn in Waldringfield in 1955 for the sum of £375.00 Later examples were carvel built and by the late 1960's Kestrel's were built with moulded GRP hulls.Capella was built in 1966 and has been owned by the same family for twenty-eight years. During that time she has been cruised extensively in the Solent and along the South Coast from her Fareham based moorings. In 2001 Capella was extensively restored and is now in full commission, full fitted-out for the 2016 season.

BROKERS COMMENTS:

Capella has been in the current ownership for most of the last twenty-eight years, cruised extensively by the owner in the Solent and along the South Coast.  She is fully equipped and has spent approximately six months of each season afloat. Out of the water she has been laid up in the owner’s garden with a well vented winter cover.  Mast and spars have been kept in a garage and sails and other equipment have been removed and kept in a loft.  All maintenance has been carried out by the owner to a high standard.  Capella has had much TLC for many years and with light usage in recent years is now regretfully up for sale.
