HISTORY & DESCRIPTION:

The Watson Class 'Charles Henry Ashley' was the second RNLI lifeboat given by Charles Ashley, the first being a pulling boat recently restored and on public display.  The Watson built at a cost of £19,040 was recently restored by her current owner on the River Sienne. Great care was taken to preserve the original style and character of the vessel whilst creating some modification during the refit to the aft cabin creating a comfortable twin berth saloon with shower compartment and wc. Further deck saloon with settees/berths. Galley.

Charles Ashley is of traditional 1940's construction with a double skin mahogany hull, copper fastened to oak timbers. Original aluminium superstructure and sheathed plate decks.

Twin 110hp six cylinder Ford diesel engines. 2,000 litre fuel capacity, 14 litres per hour consumption. 8 knots cruising speed.  Fully over-hauled two years ago with new injectors, fuel pumps, filters and belts. New batteries. Bow Thruster.

GPS, depth sounder, radar, chart plotter, compass.

Brokers Note:

A well maintained, very original former RNLI lifeboat credited with saving eighty-nine lives during her thirty year service in Wales.  Later a relief lifeboat in St. Davids and Fowey until 1982.  A robust cruising vessel of immense character and history.
