HISTORY & DESCRIPTION:

Designed by John Illingworth and Angus Primrose, Electron Blue achieved great success in the 1960's & 1970's racing under the flag of the Royal Navy, Portsmouth Naval College. Entering the Around Britain Race, Sydney Hobart, Bermuda Cup and numerous Fasnets, not to mention many Solent races.

Built to the Belmore Class design and launched as Electron of Portsea, sail number 1168, she remained in Royal Navy ownership until the mid 1970's. The second owners, Bernard Cadd of Deal, Kent and M R Davies of Tunbridge Wells renamed her Electron of Hythe, keeping the vessel on a mooring at Rye.

In the current ownership a program of refitting has been completed, recent work, in the last year includes a new oak and iroko rudder, new electronics, complete hull re-paint, re-varnished coachroof, interior re-paint, replacement running rigging, four new leisure batteries.

2009 /10

New Chart table, galley and chart table lights, complete new sole coverings, gas locker door, new three blade propeller, first aid kit, fire blanket, drinking water filter, extra gas bottle, two coats of antifouling, engine service, hull re-paint, decks re-painted, all sea cocks checked, dash controls moved to cockpit.

Yanmar 3GM Diesel Engine, gearbox and stern gear. Chain plate & fixings, keel bolts, deck coamings, exterior cabin teak, companionway hatch, cockpit timber, refurbish rudder and mounts, centralised engine from original wing mounted position, companionway steps, refit galley, saloon settees and cupboards, standing rigging, four self-tailing winches, diesel tank, fresh water tank, heads, sink and units, ply deck and fibre-glass sheathing, Furlex headsail reefing, Nasa Clipper cockpit instruments, two boom reefing winches, Flavel gimballed cooker installed.

Electron Blue is of traditional carvel construction, mahogany planked and copper fastened to steam bent oak timbers and frames. Sheathed marine ply decks with varnished teak cabin coamings and cockpit. Raked stem with shallow forefoot, transom stern and long deep keel. 10ft overhangs making a short waterline for overall length giving a good RORC rating for the1960 racing rule as championed by John Illingworth from the early 1950's.

Traditional interior with main saloon having two settee berths, port and starboard. Pilot berth aft quarter. Foreward cabin with two berths. Port side aft galley and chart table to starboard. Heads compartment.
