HISTORY & DESCRIPTION:

The Scarborough One-Design class is a popular post-war design by John Ley, an established racing dinghy and yacht designer.

Fahyda was built in 1950 for James Dearden of Huddersfield and stationed in Scarborough Harbour. In the late 1960's K F Creasey of The Mall, Surbiton became the second registered owner moving Fahyda south to a mooring in Chichester Harbour where she has remained since in various ownerships including Mr & Mrs R Brown of Sanderstead, Surrey. Fully documented history available.

An extensive keel-up restoration was carried out by Coombes Boat-Yard completed in 2001 and costing nearly £40,000. Spring 2013 exterior re-paint and varnish, antifoul and new anode.

Carvel construction, pine planking, copper fastened to steam bent oak timbers. Epoxy sheathed marine-ply decks (2001) with steel compression frame below the mast. Heavy oak floors with additional iron straps. Keel bolts re-newed in 1993 and checked by Coombes in 1999. Iron ballast keel shot blasted and epoxy painted in 2010. Blakes sea-cocks re-newed 1999. Raked stem, straight transom stern with transom hung rudder.

Traditional varnished and white enamel painted accommodation offering standing headroom in the dog-house. Port and starboard saloon settee / berths. Port quarter berth. Folding mahogany doors to fo'c'sle with Baby Blake marine wc, overhauled in 2007. Chain locker, fore-hatch and sail stowage.

Portable chart table. Galley with twin hob Plastimo gas cooker and grill (gimballed) with new gas tubing and regulator in 2010. Pantry and crockery lockers, 25 litre flexible fresh water tank. Rectangular stainless steel sink with brass water pump.

Aft cockpit, with new cover in 2012, locker seats housing the purpose built gas locker. tiller steering. new oak tiller 2004.

18hp Yanmar 2GM20 diesel engine, fitted new in 1999 with all ancillaries, annual professional service. Three bladed bronze propeller (2006) TEk 55 litre fuel tank. Range about 60 nautical miles.

Two batteries, four position battery switch.

SAILS & SPARS:

Columbian pine varnished mast (1992) deck stepped in tabernacle. Spruce boom sheeted to galvanised horse on aft deck and fitted with original Turner's patent roller boom gear. Spruce spinnaker pole. Running backstays with bronze highfield levers. Bronze mast winch, two Lewmar 40 two speed sheet winches. Stainless steel standing rigging and nylon running rigging (2001) The mast is currently raked aft in a racing style however this can be adjusted as required.

Arun mainsail (2013) Hyde genoa on Profurl roller reefing gear (2005) Jib and storm jib, nylon spinnaker.

NAVIGATION:

Original gimballed brass compass (overhauled 2005)

12 volt anchor light, navigation lights, mast steaming and deck light, bicoloured bow light, stern light.

INVENTORY:

Davet type anchor, folding boarding ladder, full winter cover, three life jackets, safety harness, lifebuoy, flares, fire extinguisher, two manual and one automatic bilge pumps. First aid kit, two radar reflectors, foghorn, crockery and cutlery. Forehatch and tiller covers, Avon Redstart dinghy with electric inflator and bracket for out-board. Bosun's chair, warps and fenders.

BROKERS NOTE:

Fahyda is almost certainly the best example of the Scarborough One-Design available on the market today. The subject of a careful and dedicated owner and a considerable re-fit by the acclaimed Coombes Boatyard. Offered at a very realistic guide price, early viewing is definately recommended.
