HISTORY & DESCRIPTION:
The South Coast One Design needs little introduction as one of the most successful yacht designs of the mid 20th Century. In 1955 a group of Island Sailing Club members approached Charles Nicholson to design an inexpensive fast one-design cruiser/racer. The first six boats built by Lallows of Cowes all competed in the 1956 Round the Island Race winning the first six places overall. The SCOD, as they became known, proved to be all that was wanted as a one-design and in all, over a period of about fifteen years, 106 boats were built by various boatyards, mostly on the South Coast. The Burnes built boats are now particularly sought after and much cherished by enthusiastic owners and members of the thriving South Coast One Design Association.
SANTIANO was built by Burnes of Bosham in 1962, number 76 of her class for brothers Doctor M S M & Doctor J M Palmer of Anchordown, Hampton Court. SANTIANO has only had three owners in her fifty-eight years a testament to the enduring appeal of the class. Purchased by the present owner some 25 years ago.
Carvel mahogany planed hull, copper fastened to steam bent timbers. Relaced marine ply deck, fibre-glass sheathed. Varnished mahogany coachroof coaming, cockpit and brightwork. Long ballast keel.

2021 Underwater hull scraped back, seams stopped, five coats underwater primer, antifouling paint. Hatches, coachroof coamings and mast re-varnished. New engine exhaust elbow. Bilges painted.
Sails date from 2006, in good to very good condition (main, no.1 genoa, working jib, storm jib and spinnaker).
Slab and roller reefing systems to the mainsail. Foresails all hanked.

GPS, NASA Clipper log and depth, WASP log, Plastimo Iris 50 compass,
V-Tronix Wind indicator and VHF aerial, two 12V batteries and battery box.
BROKERS NOTE:
An exemplary South Coast One Design considered to be one of the best in her class, following a major refit in 2008 and a careful maintenance schedule and professional updating over the years. The subject of several Classic Boat Magazine articles. Extremely original, iconic yacht, offered ready to sail this summer. Proven and capable cruising or racing performance with classic styling. Spring 2021 cosmetic re-fit ready for the season.
