HISTORY & DESCRIPTION:

Kim Holman needs no introduction as one of the UK’s most successful yacht designers of the mid 20th Century. Of Kim’s 70 designs most notable are the Stella and Twister together with the Sovereign Class.

SHIMRAN was a special commission for Sir Eric Drake CBE (1910-1996), chairman of British Petroleum. Sir Eric, from The Old Rectory, Alresford, Hampshire required a quality cruising yacht for use on the South Coast and as a member of the Royal Yacht Squadron and Royal Cruising Club for taking part in club events. SHIMRAN was built by Deacon’s of Bursledon and launched in June 1966, classed Lloyds 100A1. In 1985 Sir Eric’s son J A C Drake of Hoopers Farm, Stockbridge became a joint owner, SHIMRAN was then stationed in Falmouth. The current owner purchased the yacht in 2003 from the Drake family and has sailed from a Hamble River mooring these past fifteen years, laying-up SHIMRAN under cover during the winter. A good maintenance schedule has been maintained and SHIMRAN is excellent order throughout, the interior of the hull still varnished as original.
