HISTORY & DESCRIPTION:

The City of Edinburgh lifeboat went in to service in Wick on 1st November 1938 where she remained on active service until 1965. During this time the lifeboat was launched 134 times and saved 204 lives. After being re-engined by the RNLI in 1966 with the current 65hp Ford Parson’s six cylinder diesels she went on to be the relief boat for England and Northern Ireland before being taken out of service in July 1976.

The City of Edinburgh , re-named Saltire , after the Scottish Heraldic Symbol was professionally converted to a private motor-yacht with a sturdy aluminium superstructure in keeping with the original lifeboat style. The interior has been fitted out to a high standard with good insulation suitable as a liveaboard. Since 2004 the wiring, gas system and electronic equipment have been overhauled together with re-caulking of the decks. The engines have been re-conditioned, the starboard engine completely in recent months.

The traditional style accommodation offers six berths in three cabins.
Spacious Saloon: fixed double berth with two roote berths and drop-leaf table.
Large Galley: with two burner gas cooker with grill. Microwave, fridge. Seating area with drop-leaf table converts to generous single or small double berth.
