HISTORY & DESCRIPTION:
The Wanderer Class was a development of Jack Laurent Giles eight tonner, designed for Eric & Susan Hiscock for their circumnavigation voyage. Wanderer III lines were drawn with blue water cruising in mind and after extensive ocean voyaging the Hiscock’s were awarded numerous cruising awards.
Walrus E , Wanderer number 20, was built by P Waller in 1985 to a high specification throughout. The build was over-seen by Hamble marine surveyor David Hopkins. Carvel iroko planking, copper fastened to steam bent oak timbers. Oak stem and centre-line. Twin bonded half inch ply deck, epoxy sheathed. Varnished mahogany superstructure, cockpit and brightwork.
Traditional accommodation fitted out with mahogany joinery comprises two cabins offering five berths in total. 6ft 3ins headroom.
Heads compartment with marine wc, wash basin and shower.
Well fitted galley with stainless steel sink unit, two burner gas cooker with oven and grill. Hot and cold pressurised water system with calorifier. New water tank in 2012.
Saloon with cream upholstered settee berths, drop-leaf cabin table, Pascall Atkey Pansy charcoal stove. Wet locker.
Fore cabin with twin berths, fore hatch and chain locker.
Aft Cockpit, locker seating, lazarette, new cockpit cover 2012, new sprayhood 2012. Cockpit table.
Keel-stepped alloy mast and timber spars. Stainless-steel rigging, furling headsail, three genoas, storm jib, spinnaker, mainsail with slab reefing, lazyjacks, sail no. 20. Two self-tailing winches, two twin speed winches.
20hp Bukh diesel engine fitted new in 1985. Two batteries, engine charger.
