Construction & Description:

Eileen was built in 1920 to a traditional West Country design by Curtis & Mitchell of Looe, Cornwall for the Toms of Looe  where she remained fishing with the same family until 1975.

She then fished out of Plymouth before being bought by the present shipwright owners in 1992.

A through restoration program began, work which included a new stem and apron, sheer-strake, several planks and frames, stanchions, bulwarks and capping rail, new masts and spars and re-fastening with galvanised square cut nails.

In 1940, due to gribble the keel was replaced and extra 6″”x 5″” floors added to secure the new keel. The deck and coach roof  replaced in previous ownership.  The deck re-laid with marine-ply, epoxy sheathed with a laid Iroko finish.

The interior has been thoughtfully refitted and provides comfortable live aboard accommodation for the owners having the advantage of standing headroom along the centre-line and a multi-fuel stove. Four Cabins offering eight berths to include, forecastle, saloon, side and aft cabins. Heads compartment with shower and black water tank. Spacious galley with full sized gas cooker, fridge/freezer and sink.

Two 50 watt solar panel and Sterling battery charger. 600 watt Sine Wave inverter, VHF, Stowe Log, Whitlock Compass and Nasa Sounder.  Deck lights. Sound system.

72hp Ford 4D diesel engine with Borg-Warner hydraulic gearbox.  160 litre fuel capacity. 60 litre header tank and 100 litres main tank. Two fresh water tanks, 80 litres and 40 litres, pressurised system.

Standing Lugg Rig. Recent standing rigging. Retractable bowsprit and bumpkin ideal for harbours and reducing marina fees. 45LB CQR anchor with 30m half inch chain.  Simpson & Lawrence manual windlass.

Brokers Note:

Eileen is a rare survivor from the days of sail when many similar vessels fished around our shores.  With the growing popularity of traditional sea gatherings, Eileen is ideal for attending festivals such as Brest or Douarnenez, the latter which she sailed to a few years ago.  Eileen presently offers a comfortable home for her owners but would make a convenient sized boat for long distance cruising in the style of Dr Peter Pye who sailed many thousands of miles in his former Looe Lugger ‘Moonraker’ .
